Carmen Elsayad’s doctoral research is about recent transformations in the governance of the coffee global value chain (GVC). It is part of the research project, Understanding the Global Value Chain for Coffee from an Intersectional Perspective: Tracing Value between Colombia, Austria, and Germany, funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). For this project, Elsayad examines the emergence of specialty and certified coffees after the liberalization of the coffee trade, and its effects on public policy and trade governance today.
